Em Cosmestics

Remember that one girl, the OG, that did makeup videos back in the day? That girl was Michelle Phan and she was one of the first Youtube star known for her creative makeup videos. She quickly gained fame and partnered up with L’oreal to create her first ever makeup line, Em. I remember when that line launched, I was so proud of her and she became an inspiration for me. At the time of the launch, I was still fairly young and didn’t really have money to just splurge on makeup. So I could only buy one item and that one item was the Chiaroscuro Contour and Highlighter Stick (pictured below) from that line. I was so excited to use it once I got it because it was one of the first highlight and contour stick ever. I remember that it was pretty creamy but very flimsy at the same time (like the product on both side wanted to fall out from the tube). I remember liking the idea of the stick but this stick didn’t work so well for me, it didn’t show up much for me and it didn’t last very long either. I didn’t bother buying any of her other products because I saw and read reviews over them and it was bad. I thought this line was discontinued but I found them on Amazon. I don’t know if they are authentic or not but the images shows what her products use to look like.

Flash forward to the future. I didn’t really notice that Michelle wasn’t really promoting her line with L’oreal anymore or even got out of the partnership. It wasn’t until I saw that she was relaunching/launching her new line (solely hers), em cosmetics. I saw her video of what happened to her (how she took time off and came back stronger) and how she came up with the new logo for em cosmetics. She put a lot of thought into the new logo and it is a really cool design that if you look closely at it has the word “EM” in it (pictures of logo below). I was so inspired and impressed after seeing all of that; I was excited to try out the new em cosmetics line. All her packaging are so well thought out and beautifully designed. If you follow Em Cosmetics on Instagram, sometimes you’ll be able to see their BTS work and it is mesmerizing.

The first launch by Em Cosmetics were liquid lipsticks called infinite lip clouds. I got three colors (French nude, faded clementine, and muted mauve) and tried them out. The applicator (pictured below) is a slanted, curved shape to help make it easier to line your lips. The scent of the infinite lip clouds remind me of luxurious chocolate (I don’t know why, but I love the smell). Upon application, the formula is very soft and feels fluffy on the lips. The formula matches the name, it really does feel like clouds (not that I know what clouds feel like) on your lip. It is a matte finish and won’t dry out or crack your lips. As Michelle Phan mentioned, these are not transfer proof what so ever. These are supposedly long-lasting. They are long-lasting if you don’t eat or drink anything. Overall, I really like these infinite lip clouds and I think the colors are so beautiful.

The second launch were eyeliners (brush tip, felt tip, and matte gel pencil). Shortly after that launch, Em Cosmetics launched two box sets: eyeliner box set and mini infinite lip cloud box set. I got both of the box set.

Em Cosmetics eyeliners are called illustrative eyeliners. There are three to choose from: brush tip liquid eyeliner, felt tip liquid eyeliner, and matte gel pencil. The brush tip is a more pointy application for precise application while the felt tip is a bit bigger to create more of a bold look. I personally use the brush tip more because it is easier to use to draw an everyday wing liner. I don’t use the felt tip often. I use the matte gel pencil to fill my waterline, especially when I wear falsies. These glide very effortlessly and dry pretty quick (not as quick as Kat Von D’s tattoo ink though). These are advertised online as being waterproof but I don’t find that to be true. Every time I go to the pool or even when I sweat, my eyeliner usually smudges or disappears. If I don’t come in contact with water or sweat, my eyeliner would last all day.

These mini infinite lip clouds are really cute. They are the same packaging design and formula as the big ones.

Em Cosmetics latest launch are lipglosses called true glosses. All the colors looked really pretty, but I only bought two colors: caramel glaze and magic hour. The applicator is slightly slanted, which really helped me line my lips and have a better and more precise application. The formula gives a wet-like shined lip (like how glosses normally give). The formula is not as thick of a lipgloss as I want it to be, but some may like it better that way. The formula is definitely not sticky what so ever. There is a lip-plumping peptide in the formula; however, I didn’t notice any type of plumping on the lips. These will last long….as long as you don’t eat or drink. These lipglosses are okay and I don’t think they justify the price point on them.

Overall, I am impressed with the new Em Cosmetics and I cannot wait to see what they have in store for us!

  1. Oh my goodness! That contour stick actually looks like it would actually work for my pale skin! They’re always too dark for me! Must try! Thanks for the info!
