Kylie Cosmetics – The Yays and the Nays.

Do you guys remember when Kylie Jenner first launched her lip kits?! The original three lip kits were True Brown K, Dolce K, and Candy K. Everything was sold out within the first few minutes. Shortly after those three shades, she launched three more: Posie K, Mary Jo K, and KoKo K. Now Kylie Cosmetics have a wide variety of selection: lip kits, eyeshadows, highlighters, and more. Just like most people, I got my hands on her products and I’m going to share with you guys my Kylie Cosmetics collection. This is going to be a long post, but read till the end for review, swatches, and upcoming events!

LIP PRODUCTS:

Originally Matte Lip Kits

IMG_7768

I was so excited to try these lipkits when I first got them. Each lipkit is $29.00 and comes with a lip liner and a liquid lipstick. Her first formula for the liquid lipstick was matte liquid lipstick. The reason why I got started with these were because I hadn’t been able to find a good matte lipstick, so I wanted to try these out. I got all 6 lip kits during her second launch; I got True Brown K, Dolce K, Candy K, Posie K, KoKo K, and Mary Jo K. Application: I would line my lips with the lip liner and fill in my lips with the liquid lipstick. I was impressed with the formula and the smell of the liquid lipsticks. The smell was pleasant and the formula was amazing. The application went on smoothly and dried quickly. My lips were the matte-looking lips I’ve been looking for. It didn’t look dry AND it didn’t feel dry. It was the perfect matte look. The formula was also transfer proof. I would eat (a lot of food) and drink water and my lipstick didn’t smudge and I didn’t need to reapply. It was awesome. However, I think she changed her formula somewhat because now they transfer a little bit, especially with her new matte colors, and the darker colors are very streaky and doesn’t apply as beautifully as the other colors.

Here are some (I didn’t do all of them) swatches of her matte liquid lipsticks. (Yes, I realized as I am writing this, how ugly my swatches are). I will probably do another blog post where I am actually wearing all these on my lips, so you can see what it looks like on the lips versus just on the skin. You can purchase matte liquid lipsticks here.

Metal Lipsticks

I like her metal lipsticks. They don’t feel like other metal/metallic lipsticks that I own. They are lightweight and they feel very soft (like almost moussey but not quite) when I apply them on my lips. The colors are okay; I’m not too crazy about them. Each metal lipstick is $18.00 and can be purchased here. Here are my swatches:

Glosses

When she came out with glosses, I wanted to try them out. So when she first launched them, I got my hands on the original glosses: like, literally, so cute. I remember opening the tube to the applicator and my first reaction was, “what the heck is that?” The original applicator was a long brush that would get messed up when you twist it back in. I remember seeing Jeffree Star’s review about the brush and Jeffree just trashed it because the brush was janky. You can see what it use to look like in this article. Kylie realized the failed applicator and she made a new one: a shorter brush. She also sent out replacements to everyone that made the first orders. The brush was so much better. I ended up loving the glosses very much. They are not transfer proof or smudge proof but the gloss is thick. That is what I love about her lipglosses, they are thick and noticeable when worn (that is how I like my lipglosses…to be poppin‘).

Here are some swatches and you can be purchased here for $15.00.

Velvet Liquid Lipsticks

I like her velvet lipsticks. They are super creamy and feels so great on the lips, maybe because of the moussey consistency feel from the formula! However, they are not transfer proof or smudge proof. These are very comfortable to wear and has more of a hydrating look. You can purchase the velvet lip kits or velvet singles here. Here are some swatches for you.

Overall, I do recommend trying out these different lipsticks Kylie Cosmetics have to offer. I also do want to make a comment about these versus Colourpop, and I just have to say this: THEY ARE NOT THE SAME. THEY FEEL TOTALLY DIFFERENT.

BLUSHES

She came out with blushes and I wanted to expand my blush collection, so why not get these?! (WRONG). I feel like her blushes are just like any other type of blush. I don’t think there is anything unique about them. The colors are pretty and the application works fine. It does take multiple application to see it on my cheeks though. I don’t think the blush is worth it, considering you can get cheaper ones with the same quality (sometimes even better). Each blush is $20 and can be purchased here.

HIGHLIGHTERS

Her original kylighters were okay. Nothing special about them, besides the fact that I thought they were overpriced for the quality. It would take multiple application for the highlighter to really pop out. It is great for a subtle highlight look, BUT if I am paying $22, it better be SHINING. It wasn’t, so I wasn’t a fan.

However, when she came out with the Wet Set. I was sold. The highlighters were so pretty. It was creamy and when applied, it was AMAZING. The Wet Set has this pretty shine to it when applied onto the skin and it is also water proof. I used it all summer, especially in Vegas for pool parties and my highligher was always on point.

Her ultraglow is very pretty as well. It is the definition of highlight. However, it can get really messy because it is in powder form. So it can get on the ground or the glitter can get all over your face. That is one thing I definitely don’t like. But you win some, you lose some…right?!

These can be purchased here.

Here are some swatches, and remember, these are not buffed into the skin.

I think her eyeshadow palettes are overpriced for the quality. Some of the colors are very unique and pretty, but others are just okay. The shimmers glides very smoothly. All the other colors are in-between chalky and pigmented. So they are all very buildable. The colors always look prettier when Kylie swatches them herself, but when I swatch it, the colors are meh. I also like her color combinations in her palettes, but I think they are pricey and the quality is okay. You can find her palettes here.

Her single shadows are much more pigmented, but I don’t think she even sell these anymore. Here are the swatches:

Kyliners

I don’t think her kyliners are even available anymore because I don’t see it posted on her site. BUT TRUST ME…you are not missing out. So in these Kyliner kits, you will get a pencil eyeliner and a gel eyeliner with an angle brush. The pencil eyeliner sucks so bad. It will break everytime you use it to draw. The gel eyeliner is kind of clunky and doesn’t produce a smooth glide for application. I don’t like this product very much and probably why she no longer sells it. Here are the swatches

Collab with Khloe & Kim

Her collaboration with her two sisters (separately) were a success.

KoKo Collection

img_7737.jpg

This is the KoKo face palette: 1 blush, 2 highlighters, 1 bronzer. This can be purchased here for $40.00. The highligher and the blush is very pretty. The bronzer must be applied several times if I want it to really show up. Here are the swatches:

The lip colors are very pretty and my favorite that I wear all the time is the Damn Gina Lip gloss. Here are the swatches from the two KoKo Collection and can be purchased here.

KKW

I think this was the start of her velvet/creme line. I honestly can’t tell the difference from these creme versus her velvet lipsticks or if there is even a difference at all. The colors are pretty. You can purchase them here.
